45 - Passport Magazine's Best LGBTQ+ Friendly Countries

Welcome to Gay Travel Today! I’m Teraj and I’ll be your guide as we explore, engage and indulge in the world of LGBTQ+ travel today.

Passport Magazine recently named eight of the best countries in the world for LGBTQ+ travel. Among them include Spain, France, The Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Thailand, Uruguay and Taiwan. Interesting insights on their list I found is that although much of Central and South America is not particularly gay-friendly, Uruguay is actively cultivating a welcoming, engaging destination for LGBTQ+ travelers with its parades and gay hotspots. Thailand is also known as one of the most welcoming countries in Asia, and with Taiwan recently legalizing gay marriage in 2019, it’s becoming a hub for LGBTQ+ travelers. If you have traveled to any of these countries please share your experience and a picuture with us using the #GayTravelToday and #Sagitravel hashtags.

44 - Real ID Deadline Extended to 10.10.21

Welcome to Gay Travel Today! I’m Teraj and I’ll be your guide as we explore, engage and indulge in the world of LGBTQ+ travel today.

Some COVID-19 shutdowns are working toward the traveler’s advantage. The deadline for Real ID driver’s licenses and ID cards has been extended to Oct. 1, 2021. The original deadline was October of this year, but with DMV offices having to shut down for social distancing requirements, the federal goverment has extended the deadline. For travelers, this means that when Real IDs do go into effect in 2021, you’ll either need a passport or Real ID identifier to board a domestic flight. A Real ID-compliant license features a star in the upper portion. To receive one of these enhanced licenses, you will need to visit your local DMV for an in-person meeting; unfortunately it cannot be done online. So for the time being, while DMV offices are closed rules have been pretty flexible. TSA is allowing travelers to use an expired driver’s license to pass through security and bring bottles of 12-ounce hand sanitizer in carry-on luggage. Do you have your Real ID licenses already? Share your experience on getting one with us by hashtagging #GayTravelToday and #Sagitravel.

42 - The Mother of Pride

Welcome to Gay Travel Today! I’m Teraj and I’ll be your guide as we explore, engage and indulge in the world of LGBTQ+ travel today.

Pride events have come a long way since the Stonewall riots of 1969. Although we owe the the iconic Pride parade to number of resilient LGBTQ+ pioneers, bisexual activist Brenda Howard, referred to as “the mother of Pride,” is known for organizing the first series of pride parades to recognize the anniversary of the Stonewall riots, memorialize the significance of the event and celebrate the ongoing work being done to achieve equality. Since then, Pride parades take place all over the world and bring together millions of people – whether you’re in New York, Tel Aviv, Sao Paulo, Mexico City or Taipei, there’s a celebration for you. NYC Pride, now home to World Pride, had more than 5 million attendees last year and Madrid celebrated with 3.5 million. It’s amazing to see that no matter what corner of the world you’re from, LGBTQ+ people are being celebrated, and this number is continuing to grow! Show us a good throwback photo of last year’s pride and hashtag #GayTravelToday and #Sagitravel
