In addition to hiking here are a fair share of other experiences to discover inside and out of Ashville. For all things art and culture, go to the Southern Highland Craft Guild Folk Art Center, which highlights the craftsmanship of Southern Appalachians who do woodworking, pottery, jewelry and basket weaving. 114 - Barbados or Bust for 12 Months?

Welcome to Gay Travel Today! I’m Teraj and I’ll be your guide as we explore, engage and indulge in the world of LGBTQ+ travel today.

Countries relying heavily on travel and tourism are getting creative in order to survive the pandemic. With opportunities like online tours, nature excursions and travel discounts, Barbados, is in a league of its own. The country has planned a unique way to kick-start its tourism based economy by allowing foreigners to live and work remotely on its shores for up to 12 months. Although this made for very enthusiastic headlines, the LGBTQ+ community had some unanswered questions. Barbados has been known for its archaic laws and attitudes surrounding homosexuality, but the situation got real when queer couples began filling out their applications. The online form for the Welcome Stamp visa defined spouses as only being a mixed-sex partnership, which obviously excluded same-sex couples. The prime minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, quickly went on to address this issue and clear up any hesitations, saying that “as long as I am prime minister of this nation, we welcome all and every one” and to compliment that sentiment, the country put forward a bill to outlaw discrimiantion on the basis of age, race, color, gender and sexual orientation. Would you feel comfortable moving to Barbados to live and work for a year? Have you been to Barbados? If so share a picture and yoru thoughts with us using the #GayTravelToday and #Sagitravel hashtags.

113 - Carbon Removal Tech on the Rise

Welcome to Gay Travel Today! I’m Teraj and I’ll be your guide as we explore, engage and indulge in the world of LGBTQ+ travel today.

Carbon offsetting is probably the last thing on your mind since the coronavirus put a wrench in travel plans, but updates are in the works! Before the pandemic, only about 1% of airline passengers paid to carbon offset, so participating in this program wasn’t all too popular to begin with. Experts have seen a significant drop in global emissions due to COVID-19 related shutdowns, but when we return to any type of travel norm, voluntary carbon offsetting will be incredibly important. Breaking through the glass ceiling is Climeworks, a Swiss start-up that built a model that takes carbon out of the air and turns it into stone. This method has been proven to effectively remove emissions from the atmosphere instantly, safely and permanently through natural mineralisation that safely returns CO2 back into the atmosphere. Were you in the camp of carbon offsetting programs before the pandemic? If not, would this new model change your mind? Let us know by using the #GayTravelToday and #Sagitravel hashtags.
